A fundamental aspect in my own work is the development of individual expression through metal. As a metalsmith I consider function to be an important aspect in my jewelry, wearable art and objects. I design jewelry that can be worn comfortably on the human body; so implicit in the design process is the awareness or the interaction between object and body, as well as the history of personal ornament and its relation to ideas of individual identity.

For functional objects, I frequently begin the creative process by conducting research into its history, evolution and cultural significance. This is then integrated with design ideas based on the study of organic forms. These designs are incorporated with new and expanded techniques learned through workshops or classes.

I find that making art-whether jewelry, wearable art or metal objects is a dynamic process based on continued exploration and being open to new ideas.
